Pediatric Rehabilitation

At Marianjoy, we recognize the unique needs of pediatric patients and their families. Our Pediatric Rehabilitation Program provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative care to children, from birth to 18 years of age, who have physical and/or learning challenges due to illness, injury or congenital causes.

Our ultimate goal is to guide your child as close as possible to where he or she needs to be at this stage of life – learning, playing, and living life to the fullest.

Patients come to us with an array of conditions including:

  1. Cerebral palsy
  2. Orthopedic conditions
  3. Neuromuscular disease
  4. Brain injury
  5. Spinal cord injury
  6. Congenital abnormalities
  7. Arthritis
  8. Autism spectrum disorders
  9. Sensory integrative dysfunction
  10. Pulmonary disease

Family focused

A child, however strong and independent, is first and foremost a valued member of a special family unit. At Marianjoy, parents, siblings and loved ones play a crucial role in a child’s rehabilitation program.

Through our family-centered programs, we provide emotional, psychological and behavioral solutions for families. In addition to working alongside parents, we offer education, counseling and healing activities for brothers and sisters, who themselves are often deeply affected by their sibling’s condition.

You want the best

The Marianjoy Medical Group physicians and clinicians seek out the latest in medical technology and treatment methods to provide excellence in care to children, including:

    1. Interdisciplinary care.
    2. Sensory integration therapy, a technique used to treat neurological disorders such as attention deficit disorder and autism. Used in conjunction with other techniques, it helps children in processing sensory input and learning.
    3. Botox and phenol injections, which help reduce focal spasticity.
    4. Serial casting, a non-invasive technique to stretch and elongate muscle tissue, in order to improve the child’s function.
    5. Functional electric stimulation (FES) to strengthen the muscles and improve function.
    6. Aquatic therapy to help improve muscle flexibility, strengthening and retraining.
    7. Videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing by trained pediatric speech-language pathologists.
    8. Constraint-induced therapy to encourage use of non-dominant/injured or impaired extremity.
    9. Partial body weight supported treadmill training.
    10. Driver Evaluation and Training for new drivers to assess potential for independent driving and to make recommendations for modifications and training.

Attending and consulting physicians are not employed by Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, but are independent physicians with privileges to provide services to patients at our facilities.  The attending physicians are employees of Marianjoy Medical Group, a separate corporation from the hospital.
